Ukraine and Turkey must finally finalize the negotiation process on the creation of a free trade zone. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed this opinion on August 7 during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Quote"Finally, the time has come to finalize the negotiation process on drafting an agreement on a free trade zone," Interfax-Ukraine quoted Erdogan as saying.

The Turkish leader said talks on the issue have been ongoing for years.

Ergodan said trade between the countries in 2018 amounted to about $4 billion, and in 2017 — about $3.8 billion. Talks between the two presidents lasted more than two hours.

Free trade zone talks between Ukraine and Turkey started in 2009 and real negotiations began in 2011. Ukraine and Turkey plan to coordinate the trade of about 22.5 thousand items. About 1,000 items remain to coordinate and agree on .
